Day 10, 11 – Travel back to Vegas, hotel, then plane to Toronto
by jfejfe on 08/09/09 at 10:46 am
After the temple burn, we went back to the RV, did some final cleanups and then tried to grab a few hours sleep before heading out at 2AM. This plan “kind of” worked. We had moved the RV closer to the exit and decided to leave earlier, making it out the main exit in about 45 minutes, then heading off to Reno to find a Walmart. Long drive, but Paul did an excellent job of it. I had the HandPresso espresso maker at the ready just in case. In Reno, slept until about 6 or 7AM. There was a Starbucks nearby, so grabbed some there then headed to find the garbage depot. This was a round about downtown Reno, but we found the garbage, tossed the stuff (the RV was getting smelly) and then went to the local Denny’s. I had pancakes and bacon, bacon, bacon and Paul had Tbone and Eggs. So, we were properly set for the long drive back to Vegas.
In Vegas, we stayed at the Orleans hotel. Nice hotel, $29 a night ! We took the free shuttle to the Strip and walked around and inside the Bellagio. Huge place, filled with Las Vegas as you’d expect it. Then, had noodles at a local restaurant and beers, then back to hotel for sleep. Quite the recovery planning I’d say. A long day of driving back, stories about Burning Man, stories about what costume to wear next year… Next year? Have to get KD here – she would love it.
Right now I’m in a “seattles best coffee” lounge, looking for free internet to upload all of these blogs (I have a backlog of about 8 days to upload with pix). But for now, I’ll add more pix that I have on the camera. Some of the more “interesting” photos I didnt put on the blog to make it more viewable by more folks (i.e. grandparents). So, there was more burning man than burning man so to say. At the end, hard to define exactly what “Burning Man” exactly is/was. There are lots of human expressions, materialized in many ways. The most common is art. There is an acceptance of individualism all round that is a norm and the atmosphere is both vibrant and contemplative. Its a happy, accepting, dust filled human experience.
